Planned Spontaneity – Romance, passion, desire, all are born from spontaneity, from a feeling of living ‘In the moment.’ It seems counter intuitive then, that routine can help us recapture those feelings, but with kids and careers, it boils down to making the time.

You may not realize it but single people work for their spontaneity too. They spend endless hours at clubs and bars or online dating searching for a spark. True spontaneity is the reward of a well managed life, not the luxury of the irresponsible. In essence, if you want that spark back, you’ve got to get organized first.

Breaking free of passivity – While we work towards the dream career, or the 4 hour work week, most of us aren’t quite there yet. Working towards a dream whilst raising children can sap you of energy and lead to a passive home life. Passivity can be lounging in front of the TV for hours, or flicking through magazines, choosing to stay out late at work drinks, or fiddling for too long on the internet hence the productivity remains at zero.

Romance starts with the briefest of moments. A look, touch or smile can be all it takes. Over the course of the week make a note of the hours you spend in passivity. Cut it in half and spend that time actively engaged in romance. Candlelit baths may be your thing, or a night of dancing, or even reorganizing the bedroom into a more inviting atmosphere. Every couple has dozens of unique activities that work for them, try them, and see where they take you.

The best things in life are free – Or so they say. As couples we already have an advantage over singles; a person with whom we already share a spark. Romance comes free, and when you take that minute, that hour, that afternoon, to do something for or with your partner, whether it be a massage, a romantic dinner or even just cleaning the leaves out of the gutter before your asked, that gift can turn into momentum.

Where to next? – Now that the embers are stirred, it’s time to add a little fuel to the fire. Romantic getaways can rekindle forgotten romantic memories, for example:

Manoa Valley Inn, Hawaii manoavalleyinn.com – Located in an exclusive area of Honolulu, this Victorian Inn, filled with a delightful mix of European antiques and island flair, offers a luxurious getaway from couples. Delicious breakfasts, saltwater pools, and secluded garden, an intimate retreat with access to the mountains and beaches of Waikiki is sure to stir the heart.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming skisnowboard.com/jackson/index.html -  For a winter retreat, few places compare to spectacular and secluded Jackson hole. Whether it be panoramas that invoke the spirit of the West, or steamy spas, luxury hotels and the authentic Old West town. For those that enjoy it, the skiing and snowboarding is top notch, and few experiences are as heart warming as a sleigh ride through a winter wonderland of majestic Elk.

Alone, Together – Perhaps you just want to spend a bit of time in your own neighborhood. Home projects, and renovations can be acts of romance as well, and capturing that spark might just be a question of finding time together away from the children to remember what you are working towards, and what you already have.

School holidays might not seem like the best time to do that, with the children around 24/7, but there are plenty of safe, fun options like kids camps. The best thing about it is not only do the kids get to go on an adventure, but the cost is a fraction of a vacation.

kidscamps.com Is a fantastic website with a wealth of information about Summer Camps organized into your child’s interest. There is plenty of information for parents and thoroughly recommended as a source of information.
