First and foremost is to be honest with both yourself and your partner. Call or talk directly and make it clear that you want to end the courtship and that the decision is final. Be precise in your explanation on why you don’t think there is no future for you or both in this relationship and be very concise and clear when you talk instead of being emotional and aggressive. If the listener is mature and intelligent, he or she will understand your stand and viewpoint and will agree to what you say. This is the normal process involved in the separation of mature, decent and intelligent people.

For the less levelheaded ones who are very stubborn, unreasonable and throw tantrums, there are methods, which use direct signals like avoiding phone calls, ignoring overtures and doing everything to the dislike of the person you want to lose. This method could be a double-edged sword as this might result in the other person being more adamant and insistent. Then these trouble mongers can be dealt with using any means at your disposal namely persuasion, coercion or by the power of law. So simple though it may sound, different people react differently to situations where human emotions are involved. The best way therefore in ending an affair, seems to be the time tested one of honesty with resoluteness. Telling the other one in a very mature, decent, honest, clear and concise way why the relationship wont work and also be resolute in the decision taken, hiding all signs of a possible change of heart or reconciliation from your side that could be misconstrued as a sign of weakness by the other one.
