Friends Cyber Club Changed a Lot in 2009

How it all started – Friends cyber club is my first website, I had not purchased any domains before. Back in 2005 when I left high school, I had my plans to make a social networking website. It was all fun then, no big money making idea was behind this website. However with the starting of 2007 I was very much involved with the web and started many projects, many of which became huge success for me in terms of profits. This is when I started to wonder about friends cyber club’s monetization options. Unfortunately I could not make much money out of this site, it was just covering its fees at max.

Growth – With 2007 going towards its end, friends cyber club started to become huge. Lots of new members joined friends cyber club in 2008 and it became one of my highest trafficked website. New members liked this website due to its simplicity and ease of use. Members were from all countries, but mostly from USA and UK. Traffic was consistently growing and so were the members. People started to upload pictures in their galleries and our bandwidth usage increased further. Also friends cyber club was improperly coded, no offence towards the coder, it was me who asked to code it this way, and the results was high database usage. I was just lucky not to have asked by the host to remove the website and host it somewhere else, or buy dedicated servers.

Monetization – Since the website was not made with a vision to make money, so there was no paid or premium membership options. So, I started to plan to make a premium membership option. That way I would have added more features for the paid members and restricted some features for the free members. I don’t like this idea of going paid myself, besides it will cost a lot of money on coding to get these features done. And even if we have a premium membership option, people might not go for the paid option, even worse, the free members could have left the site due to limited access.

Final decision – I have finally planned to close down the social networking part of friends cyber club for the time being. All the profiles and the data in it are safely stored and nobody has access to them. If in future friends cyber club social networking goes live, all members will be notified by the email, till then friends cyber club will work as a resource website with articles on, relationships, dating, wedding and other topics.
